This Privacy Policy explains how Yassine Malti ("we", "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you install or use Backlinker, a Shopify app that places backlinks on other Shopify stores' blogs and can host guest posts on yours, and when you use this website.
By installing or using Backlinker, you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, uninstall the app and stop using this website. The Terms of Service explain the rules for using Backlinker.
Who we are
Backlinker is operated by Yassine Malti, an independent Shopify app developer based in Ottawa, Canada. Shopify provides the store platform. Backlinker is a separate app and is not owned by Shopify.
Information we collect
Account and store details from Shopify
When you install Backlinker, Shopify shares the details the app needs to run:
- Your store domain and store name
- The store owner's name and email address
- An access token for the store data described below
- The billing status of your Backlinker plan, as reported by Shopify
Store content the app processes
To match stores and publish posts, Backlinker reads the content it needs and, when a post goes live, writes to the blog involved:
- Product and page links, so a guest post can point to your homepage or an existing post
- Blog posts and pages, so a guest post can be created on a host blog or hosted on yours
- Files and images used in those posts
- Settings you choose, such as language, niche, and notifications
The app does not request access to your customers' profiles or order history.
Other stores in the network
A backlink is a post on another merchant's blog that links to your store. If you host a post, that article is published on your blog and can mention other stores. Matching can use niche, language, and domain metrics. We do not give other merchants your Shopify access token.
Optional Google Search Console and Moz
If you connect Search Console, Google lets the app read search performance for the property you select, including queries, clicks, and impressions. We store that connection. The permission is read-only, and the app does not change your Search Console settings. Moz domain metrics may be stored for matching and for the report in the app. You can disconnect Search Console in the app.
Messages and this website
- Emails and other messages you send to support
- The email address you submit to the newsletter on this website
- Basic technical logs, such as browser type and the pages requested, used to keep the site working
How we use information
- Provide Backlinker, including matching, guest posts, images, and publishing
- Show credits, plan usage, and billing status
- Send service messages you asked for, such as support replies
- Protect the app, look into abuse, and meet legal duties
- Improve Backlinker using aggregated use of the product. We do not sell your information.
AI models and other services
When a guest post or image is generated, Backlinker sends the relevant store text and your settings to the provider that does that work, which can include OpenAI. That provider processes the material to return text or an image. We do not let them use your store content to advertise to your customers.
When we share information
We do not sell personal information. We share it only in these cases:
- Shopify, which hosts your store, bills the app, and supplies the data the app is allowed to use
- Companies that host Backlinker and store its database
- Email delivery for notifications and the website newsletter
- The AI and image providers above, only to complete the task you start
- Other merchants, who see the guest post and link published on their blog, or whose post is published on yours
- Google, if you connect Search Console, and Moz, for domain metrics
- Authorities when the law requires it, or when we must protect users' rights and safety
How long we keep information
We keep store data and access tokens while Backlinker is installed, and for a short time after, so we can finish work already started, answer billing questions, and meet legal requirements. When you uninstall the app, Shopify tells us, and we delete or anonymize shop data we no longer need, including Search Console tokens. Newsletter addresses stay until you unsubscribe. Support messages stay long enough to handle the request.
Security
We protect stored information with access controls and encryption in transit. No online service is perfectly secure. Keep your Shopify staff accounts protected.
International transfers
We are based in Canada. Information may be processed in Canada and in other countries where our hosting, email, and AI providers operate. Those countries may have different privacy laws. We take steps that fit the service to protect information when it moves.
Your choices and rights
- Uninstall Backlinker in the Shopify admin to stop further access to your store
- Disconnect Search Console in the app
- Unsubscribe from the newsletter with the link in those emails
- Ask us for a copy, a correction, or deletion of personal information we hold about you
- If you are in the EEA, the United Kingdom, or a similar region, you may also object to certain processing and complain to your local authority
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Children
Backlinker is a business tool for Shopify merchants. It is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. When we do, we change the date at the top of this page. If you keep using Backlinker after an update, the revised policy applies.
